Firelands Hero Awards

Nomination Rules & Guidelines:
· Please complete and return this nomination form, along with a one-page (double spaced) typewritten statement about your nominee, to the American Red Cross, Firelands Chapter. Use the essay to tell a compelling story about why your nominee is a hero to you and why they should be selected as a Red Cross Firelands Hero.
· The nominee should be an everyday local hero that has inspired you. Suggested categories include: Community Impact, The Arts, Education, Health Care, Volunteering, Youth (age 18 or younger), Seniors, Military, Red Cross, Water Safety, Public Safety, Sports, Workplace, Animal Rescue, etc. Use your imagination!
· Nominees must be a resident of the Firelands Chapter, which covers Erie and Huron Counties. Military Heroes must be stationed in, or a resident of Erie or Huron County but stationed elsewhere.
· While many people may have been your lifelong hero, nominators must highlight at least one event or situation that took place during the past 12 months in which their nominee qualified as an American Red Cross Firelands Hero.
· The Firelands Heroes Award Judging Committee will be comprised of community leaders from Erie and Huron Counties. This group will select the Hero Award final categories and winners. Only one Hero will be chosen in each category, unless it was a group effort. Nominators may make more than one nomination, but for different people, and different categories. All nominations will be verified by a representative of the American Red Cross.
· Nominations for life-saving events from Erie County may also be referred to the Sandusky Area Safety Council for consideration in their awards.
· Winners will be announced on February 1, 2007 and will be the honored guests at the Firelands Heroes Awards breakfast on Saturday, March 3, 2007. The American Red Cross will host each winner and one guest, as well as the nominator at the ceremony. Nominees must be able to attend the ceremony on March 1, 2008.
· Nomination forms should be mailed to: Firelands Heroes, American Red Cross, Firelands Chapter, 300 Central Ave. Sandusky, OH 44870 and must be received by Friday, November 30, 2007. This form may be copied and additional nomination forms are available at the Red Cross and on line at www.firelandsredcross.org.
