  • Firelands Chapter of the American Red Cross trains the majority of water safety instructors and lifeguards certified in this area.

  • Provides (either directly or indirectly) most of the "learn to swim" lessons for our area's children.

  • Trains approximately 3,000 people per year through Water Safety Classes.

SUMMER LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAM

The Firelands Chapter of the American Red Cross offers Learn-to Swim lessons every summer from June to August at Jackson Jr. High Pool, in Sandusky and the Willard City Pool .

SUMMER 2008 SCHEDULE

Learn-to-Swim Program teaches all levels of swimmers and pre-swimmers starting at ages 4 and up.    Includes water safety, strokes and funNew 1-hour classes give intensive learning, improve skills! (at Sandusky only)

Fees: $35 (1 session) $30 each additional session 

Family Rates per session: 2 children = $60 , 3 children = $80 , 4 children = $100

Reduced fee with scholarship is $10 per session. Partial scholarships available on a first come, first served basis.  Scholarship eligibility: must qualify for school reduced price lunch program, up to 2 scholarships per child. Scholarships are provided courtesy of community foundations and individual donations.  We are grateful for their support!

LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Become a lifeguard:  a fun summer job or the beginning of a life-long career.  Great also for youth leaders!   

A course for participants age 15 and older, teaches the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. CPR for the Professional Rescuer and first aid training are included. Prerequisite testing in the water is required.  Fee: $150

Learn to teach American Red Cross swim lessons!  Great way to earn extra money or your first step toward a career as an Aquatics Director!  Must be 16 years old by last class date.  Proof of age may be required.
